Ringing in the New Year with Creativity

January 4th, 2009 · No Comments

Hello again! It’s been quite a while since I’ve written and I’m glad to be back here on the Summerglen Files. Posts here have been a bit sparse because I’ve been working on several big projects, but I look forward to an exciting, post-filled 2009!

One of the projects that has dominated my time over the past month or so is a workbook I’ve been writing for my upcoming Women Embracing Creativity course. Working on this book has been really exciting, in part because writing it has been a profound experience with the power of creativity.

In my musical career, I’ve spent a great deal of time developing my own understanding of the creative process. Even so, I had no idea how strongly this creative understanding would impact activities other than music, like writing. I don’t really consider myself a writer, but when I surrendered to the creative process, pages and pages flowed easily from my fingers. The right phrases and ideas popped up without strain. I heard what needed to be written, and wrote. And it was fun, all 80 pages of it!

It’s little miracles like this that come from embracing our creativity.

The more I wrote on the book, and the more fun it was, the more excited I got about teaching this course. Even though creativity is one of the hallmarks of being human, it’s also something that many people will readily deny having. Little do people know that when they say they’re uncreative, they’re missing out on some of the biggest fun out there, the kind that’s low on cost and high on imagination. I look forward to showing people that yes, we can create!
