I haven’t been blogging, but it’s been for an important cause. We dig Barack Obama here at Summerglen–we’ve had our Obama sign out since before the primaries. And throughout his campaign, we’ve been knocking on doors, talking to our families, and paying attention to what’s going on in the world, really for the first time. In years past, we haven’t been quite as active or engaged in national affairs, because it seemed like there was no way we could make a difference.

Well, now we know that we CAN make a difference. And we want to keep doing it!

The thing I like best about our president-elect is his ability to inspire and motivate people to get out there and change the world. (What teacher wouldn’t like THAT?) I hope that all these excited people will continue putting their energy out there to help others, and to make our country and our world the best it can be.

Congratulations, President-Elect Obama!

One of the reasons we Summergleners do what we do is because we love helping people. It feels good to give back to the community with our music, and to empower people to play through positive music lessons and clinics. Nowadays, though, we’ve added a new good cause to our repertoire…SOCKS!

The Sierra Club Sock-A-Thon is a project begun by our sockmaking friend Diogenes Ruiz. Diogenes’ company, Devmir, manufactures earth-friendly socks made of organic cotton and bamboo, soy, and recycled synthetic fibers. On November 1st, Diogenes is holding a Sock-A-Thon to benefit both the Sierra Club and the homeless, and you’re invited to join in!

Here’s how it works. For every pair of socks sold on November 1st from the Sierra Club Socks website, 10% of the purchase price will be donated to the Sierra Club and another pair of socks will be donated to the National Coalition for the Homeless. Our goal is to raise a million dollars for the Sierra Club and to donate a million pairs of socks to the homeless.

I challenge you, readers, to get the word out about this great cause! Drop by http://www.sierraclubsocks.com to learn more, and to register for the Sock-A-Thon. You can make a difference in the world with just a few mouse clicks!

As you browse the sock site, take a listen to the official theme song of the Sock-A-Thon, Change Your Socks, Change The World. We just finished it late last night!
